Tennis Director, David Bvunzawabaya
Prior to David Bvunzawaya teaching tennis he was a professional tennis player on the ITF and ATP pro tours. After his pro career, David continued his love affair with tennis by taking his personality and passion for the game to others by teaching what he had learned on the court and passing it along to others that shared his love of tennis.
David B, as he is called for obvious reasons, has been teaching tennis to all ages and tennis levels for 18 years. He is an International Tennis Federation Certified Professional and has been a USPTA Professional for 12 years. A designation not easily obtained.
Unlike so many professional tennis players who can play at a high level very few don’t have the ability or patience to teach what comes instinctively to them on the court. David is one of the rare breed of player who did play at a very high level and is able to communicate in words and demonstrate on the court to the student the ground strokes, strategies and mental attitudes associated with tennis.
David today is the owner and operator of the highly successful High Performance Tennis Academy based here at Northgate’s Tennis Center. Prior to him starting the academy, David was a Division I College coach. As a college coach and former professional tennis player, David knows what colleges are looking for in players and that’s what he focuses on every day at HPTA with his students.
Today David continues to prepare his students for USTA local, regional and National Tournaments where college scouts are looking for players for their schools. David has been and continues to be successful in obtaining college scholarships and grants from the USTA for his students. He does this from his teaching, encouragement and by writing letters on their behalf to colleges and universities.
In addition to overseeing HPTA, David also is a very interactive Tennis Director with members here at Northgate Country Club. David is as energetic with the members as he is with his students. He provides both Private and Semi-Private Lessons, Beginners, to advanced levels, offers Drills for men and women, both league and non-league players and is instrumental in obtaining sponsors for events and tournaments put on for the members.
Tennis Professional, Kudzai Chiridza
Kudzai Chiridza, hails from Zimbabwe Africa. Like so many tennis pros he took up tennis at a very young age, six to be precise and got serious about it at the age of eleven, that's when he won his first tournament. After many other tournament wins, Kudzai got the call every young tennis player in the world dreams of, the opportunity to represent his country with the ITF (International Tennis Federation) Junior National Team of Zimbabwe Africa. While on the National Team he played all over the world and his tennis just got better and better playing on a world stage. Even today you can see the pride on his face when it's mentioned about him representing his country.
After having an unbelievable successful Juniors career in the ITF, Kudzai caught the eye of a number of colleges to play Division I Tennis before settling on Prairie View A&M with a full Division I scholarship. Praire Views confidence in the young man was not misplaced as Kudzai went on to play Line 1 Singles and Line 1 Doubles, won Freshman of the year 2004, instrumental in the team winning the NCAA SWAC Tennis Championship Title in 2005, which by the way was the first time PV had gotten a bid to the Big Dance in over 36 years, MVP 2006 and 1st Team All-Conference in the SWAC in 2007. In short, a phenomenal college tennis career.
When he graduated, Kudzai was offered one of the hardest jobs to get in college sports, because of his level of play on the court, leadership qualities and his knowledge of the game, Kudzai was offered the coveted Tennis Graduate Assistant position at PV.
Following graduation and coaching on the college level, Kudzai took his vast college tennis experience, knowledge, love of the game and applied that to teaching the next generation of tennis players in Houston. Over the years Kudzai has coached and been on staff at a number of tennis facilities and academies in the area. With his strong ITF Juniors ties along with his D-I college experience, Kudzai knows what it takes first hand to be an elite player in today's competitive tennis environment, and has communicated that formula to his students for over 10 years,
Because of his tennis prowess and close relationship with fellow Zimbabwean David B., I am happy to report he was lured away from Corporate America, and now on staff here at NorthGate Tennis as well as an Instructor at High Performance Tennis Academy, based out of NorthGate Country Club.
